Welcome on the Double Forest Ranch and our unique breeding of "Swiss" APPALOOSA x APPALOOSA
In our breeding stock may be found much over 100 different Appaloosas registered in the F-List (Foundation Stock). Several out of them are directly going back to the Sam Fisher herd, a Palouse Indian, like for example Trixie and Rex. These bloodlines are also present in the following horses: Marvels Angel, Painter III, Chief Navajo, Crusty, El Zorro, Spotted Eagle, breeding our of "Don Ulrich"...
Sam Fisher was highly respected in his tribe. Thanks to old sources it is known that his horses were very athletic, reliable, friendly surefooted with excellent longevity. They had “a huge heart”. Traditional Appaloosa (True Appaloosa) is also in the descendants of the "Ghost Wind Stallions" Blue Hawk, Winged Hawk, Spotted Eagle, Fire Eyes of George Long Grass, a stockbreeder Nez-Percé. Esther, the mother of Snow directly comes from the breeding of the tribe Nez-Percé as well as the Indian horses The Wagtail Kid (father of Snow), Golden Glow. Some of these descendants were between others: Pigeon, Surprise, Flaxen Girl, Flying Sargeant, May's Surprise T3, Spotted Jim, Nugget Jim,... Also out of the tribe Nez-Percé, Imbodens Shawnee is a déscendant of Snow Cloud.
Descendants direct of the Indian horses are also "Leopards of Wyoming" as Chico, Starbuck Leopard, Sundance F500, Bambi E, Sunspot Revel,... Certain descendants can be apparently redrawn until Appaloosas by the 19th century. In the USA just a couple of breeders is still breeding these old lined native Appaloosas in these days. A famous one was the breeding of Alice Pratt. Today one of the most serious breeding operations with a lot of genetic know-how is the one of Milton and Mary Decker. The DREA (Decker’s Red Eagle Appaloosas) Horses are to be considered in today’s Foundation Appaloosa breeding for sure as a reference.
By crossing Appaloosa x Appaloosa, we contribute actively to conservation of this "old line pedigree" Appaloosas with all their typical and traditional extraordinary qualities of this breed as their kindness, their peace, their reliability and their mental balance. On the other hand they have following qualities: hardy, long-lived, sound easy keepers. They have gentle temperaments, are extremely intelligent and athletic and are suitable for all ages and levels of riders. On top of that they have for most extraordinary colours. We are proud to have genuine Indian blood in the veins of our horses.
We choose our breeders ourselves and these are imported directly or come from our own breeding. Our Appaloosas can be handled and ridden by the whole family including children. A particular attention is turned on the entrainment and participation in competitions of endurance. We offer for sale a choice of Appaloosas of quality in term of character, conformation and colour. Our new born horses are imprinted immediately after birth and are in daily contact with us.
